2010 BC Purple Martin Breeding Season Draws to a Close
(Aug 19/10)

Many martins now migrating South to winter in South America
Banding completed mid August and 2000+ nestlings banded in total.
Open House on July 18 was a great success! Many people enjoyed both the displays and banding demonstrations. The purple milkshakes were delicious on a very hot day. Come and join us next year!
10 more geolocators applied to adult birds at Ladysmith colony mid July.
Nestling banding expected to start mid July.
Martin eggs hatching at some colonies in early July.
One geolocator retreived on June 14 and migration data being analyzed
Two geolocators sighted at the French Creek colony in mid June.
First subadult martins seen on May 17 at Newcastle Island.
First adult martins observed on April 10 and 11 at Ladysmith Maritime Society marina and several other sites on Vancouver Island.
